Remedies For Snoring

June 30th, 2010 Comments off

Having snored quite badly over recent years, I was keen to find a way to reduce the severity of the condition, as was my partner. A search online soon showed me that there were a range of anti snoring aids that could possibly help me.

It didn’t take me very long to discover that I only really snored whilst lying on my back, and this basic knowledge made finding a solution very simple indeed. I just needed to find something that would stop me rolling over during the night, and the snoring pillow was just the ticket.

I looked at a number of anti snoring pillows that were made of a special memory foam, and were shaped so that it was more difficult to roll onto your back during the sleeping hours. I really liked the fact that these devices were non-invasive, and one could get a great night sleep with no discomfort. I purchased a product that also positioned the jaw and neck so that the airway clearance was maximised.

My spouse was very impressed with the results, commenting that things had improved a lot after just a few days. I have woken her a lot over the years, and I think she was happier than me with the results.

For those of you that mouth breathe while asleep, a special chinstrap is available that can also help the condition. These simple devices do little more than keeping the mouth closed during the night by a head harness and chin cup. They look a little bit odd but work exceptionally well. They can be purchased online for not much more than $20, a great deal if it stops you snoring.

I would recommend that you try out one or two of these low cost products after analysing your snoring habits, and see if they provide relief. You may need to try a couple of different items, but to be able to stop snoring makes the time and effort spent on research well worthwhile.

I have found that it has produced a really positive effect on my life, including a reduction in daytime tiredness, more general energy, and a better relationship with my partner, who was usually more tired than I was. It’s really amazing how something that seems as innocent as snoring can have such a profound effect on your life. I have never felt better.

If you are eager to quit snoring, the purchase of anti snoring devices could change your life. visit Julian’s web site and look at some great reviews on all types of anti snoring products and get the best snoring chin straps for your money.

Newborns And Good Sleep Habits

June 29th, 2010 Comments off

Parents of newborns often struggle with the challenges of getting enough sleep themselves and encouraging their babies to have good sleeping habits. Establishing good sleep routines starts as early as possible and includes several factors. Safe sleeping positions, feeding schedules, burping, and day time awareness are good points at which to begin the journey of sleeping through the night, for both parents and babies.

As parents first bring their babies into their homes there are often hectic adjustments made for meeting the basic needs of eating, sleeping, and comforting for their babies. Sleeping routines can be challenging to develop, but it is important to start with safe sleeping positions. It is the recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatrics that infants be placed on their backs to sleep, and is reiterated with the slogan “back to sleep.” Recent research shows that sleeping on their backs is best for infants because it can help reduce the risks of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). The crib or bassinette should also be free of loose blankets and toys and meet all safety standards for materials and construction. Some babies might not prefer to sleep on their backs, but it is the safest position for most infants and over time they will grow accustomed to this sleep position. Parents can also place their babies in the cribs when the babies are drowsy but not fully asleep as this will help to encourage babies to learn to fall asleep on their own. It is also important to speak with the infant’s pediatrician for guidelines for the best sleeping position because some premature infants and those with health concerns might have specific positioning needs during sleep.

Along with sleep, feeding newborns is an essential and sometimes seemingly constant activity. Most newborns will eat every 2-4 hours, depending upon whether they are breast or bottle fed. As they get older these times will vary, but even a 3 month old infant might nurse as often as every 4-6 hours during the day, and 4-8 hours at night. Parents should try to take feeding schedule cues from their babies and also speak with their pediatricians about appropriate amounts and routines. After each feeding it is important to burp the infant, using positions that are effective and comfortable for the parent and child. Some babies will burp best at the shoulder, and others prefer to sit and be supported over the forearm, or draped over the forearm of the parent, in what is sometimes referred to as the football carry position. Sometimes babies will fall asleep while eating, then not be apparently awake enough to burp. Gentle pats on the back or belly rubs can also help encourage burping. At night, try to get at least one or two good burps out of the baby before placing the baby back to sleep.

It is also important that during this time the parents establish the differences between day and night routines with babies. This can be done by keeping the home dark and quiet at night and interacting less with the baby when he or she awakens at night. This means that the parent can respond to all of the baby?s needs, but refrain from conversations, playful activities, lots of interior lights, or television noise. Investing in a few good night lights can be enough for parents to see what is needed while still maintaining a dark atmosphere. During the day there can be plenty of opportunities for tummy play time, giggling, singing, and more.

Effective sleep habits can be developed by addressing several areas of the infant?s life. Parents should focus on safe sleeping positions, appropriate feeding schedules, trying various burping techniques, and encouraging night time awareness. Time and patience will be needed, but the rewards will be worth the investments.
