Millions of people are frustrated by what they perceive is insomnia.
Perhaps they do have actual insomnia, or they are having periodic bouts of low quality sleep. Insomnia is a chronic condition that is long lasting and warrants consulting with your physician. I personally know of someone who had terrible insomnia, and he did not know why he could not sleep. After a visit to his doctor and testing, he discovered he had SLEEP APNEA. So there could be reasons for your chronic condition that may need to be professionally diagnosed. You should know that there are a number of things you can do for yourself that can positively affect how you sleep.
There is a difficult cycle that many people fall into, and that is taking naps in the afternoon after work or even dozing after eating a gut-busting dinner. We’ve all been in the position of needing to catch a few quick z’s. But you are disturbing your sleep cycle when you do this. One of the most negative activities you can engage in after dinner is watching television. Even walking for five or ten minutes will help your food to digest better. Your body will have more energy and your stomach will feel less bloated afterward. If you do that, you’ll likely experience less difficulty when falling asleep later.
Our minds play so many little tricks on us, or it rather can be conditioned in ways that are not completely helpful. Conditioning your mind that the bedroom is only for sleeping will go a long way to help your overall sleep patterns. Of course if you have a spouse or partner, then your bedroom is also a place for intimacy. The idea is to avoid using the bedroom for other activities such as reading or watching television. This is all about making powerful associations between your mind and your bedroom. The idea is to cue your body and mind to understand when it is appropriate to go to bed.
Chronic and Severe Insomnia is a serious matter and should be viewed as such. The simple reason is it could be an indication of a health condition. The first thing you need to eliminate is the possibility of a more serious condition that is resulting in insomnia. So of course that means you do need to talk to your doctor about what is going on. If your doctor can’t physically find anything wrong, he may consider psychological aspects to the problem. Changes in lifestyle are often the direct cause of short-lived sleep disorders. In such instances, the appropriate course of action is to work to alleviate the source of the anxiety.
It is not always straightforward when attempting to cure your insomnia. But of course you have to be proactive about it because it will drain your energy as well as other negative effects.
